reportedly came from a surveillance camera at a nearby lord & taylor store. the video reportedly shows the person's face and authorities are looking to question that individual. this afternoon the fbi denied reports from other media outlets that an arrest had been made in the case. meanwhile, investigators today continued collecting forensic evidence from the attack site as they learn more about the bomb used. nbc news reports that the bomb's triggering mechanism was fairly sophisticated. it included a battery pack and a circuit board. both of which were recovered at the scene. investigators also caution that there is no indication at this time of any connection to groups overseas. we're expecting, by the way, a 5:00 p.m. press conference from the fbi and other officials, but that press conference has been postponed. we don't know how long. meanwhile, within the last half hour, the u.s. senate has voted down the compromise deal on expanded background checks put forth by senators joe manchin of west virginia and pat toomey of pennsylvania. the vote was 54 for, 40 votes against. we'll br
they are going to do is look at surveillance cameras. we know from lord & taylor that is right there on boyleston street, they will go through the film and they may have the person of interest that may have placed the bombs. the video is probably newer quality and a newer brand and give law enforce amount good eye's view on who put the bomb's down and mabybe even a facial shot of who did it. >> is this where the see video e evidence used to identify person and then more definitive information to see how they were involved. is that how it typically works? >> it works many different ways. if you bring the person in and start questioning them, they may confess and tell you why they did it. detectives are very, very good and fbi agents are excellent at putting someone in a room and starting to talk to them. and they talk to them the way we are talking right now. we understand did you it, there must be a reason why you did it, and the person starts to talk. >> okay, tom ruskin, stay with us. i want to talk to wnbc new york, what's the latest on your end, jonathan. >> there is no arrest is. multiple of
the lord and taylor right across the street, right in the middle of where the two bombs exploded, is playing apparently a very key role. i had a friend that described the two men in the video. one wearing a white hat. can you confirm that that is true? >> indeed, one of the two individuals in the photo is wearing a white hat, yes. >> can you give us just a general description, if law enforcement was going to ask bill hemmer for a description, how would you describe these two men? >> i would say one individual with a white hat wearing dark clothing would suggest to me it was black clothing on the top and the pants on the bottom. the other individual was not wearing a hat, but had some sort of blue track suit or jumpsuit on, as well. that's how i would describe them. >> i have seen these photo myself. they are on some other online sources. so it's interesting, especially the person when the white hat, bill. if you look closely at the backpack, there seems to be a protrusion about the size of a circle that could suggest that this was the pressure cooker bomb, if you will. >> i tell
from a camera on top of a lord & taylor across the street. let me show you where that's pointing at, the mailbox, that is where the bombing took place. let me bring in our model and talk about the placement of everything here. you right now are right over in this area. this has been cnn's position all day over here. lord & taylor is over here not far away. it's yellow in our model. look closely, because this camera that we're talking about is actually right up there on the corner of the building. and that is the second explosion site right down there. you could see that is a completely clear line of site if, in fact, they have an image of a bomber, it would be a good one from that angle. you can see the other site, that was the first explosion, this is the second explosion. this matters because as you try to get to the physical evidence, it really helps, if you have some idea of whom you were following. even if it's been 6 or 7 people, you can start tracing them and find the origin of these relatively common items used in the bomb. erin? >> common items, a pressure cooker, we're loo
